about

Laurie Spiegel is an American composer, known primarily for her electronic-music and algorithmic compositions (software Music Mouse). A pioneer of the New York new-music scene, her realisation of Kepler’s “Harmony of the Planets” was included on the “Sounds of Earth” recording, that NASA sent into space on the Voyager spacecraft in 1977 and has travelled to the edge of our solar system. ‘Remembering First Explorations’ (2017) In memory of Don Buchla.
“I created all sounds for this piece on a Buchla Music Easel and assembled them into this piece with no further processing in a multitrack of editor on Mac.
Going on half a century ago Don Buchla's instruments changed the course of my life and he was a friend too. After many years of computer composition, when I return to one of his analog modular instruments i have the same sense of coming home as when I pick up a guitar."
