about

A British electronic music composer and producer based in France, Martin Wheeler was born in London. Ten years later he went to Australia and lived with Kookaburras, then moved to New York, where he played f**ked up experimental music downtown. Following the move to Paris he began making music for film, composing a series of critically acclaimed soundtracks for independent films, including many shown at major festivals: Cannes, Venice, Berlin etc. He has now composed well over a hundred scores for cinema and television, won several major awards (including the 2014 César for best original score), and had many strange and wonderful collaborations with the likes of Rhys Chatham, Múm and recently, Iggy Pop.
He has also written music for dance, theatre & installations, given performances at the Cinémathèque Française and the Centre Pompidou, recorded on the historic pipe organs of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims, created much of his own sound mangling software in max/msp and for the last few years has also been working extensively with an ever-expanding modular system.
